In 1853, the New York Times misspelled the last name of Solomon Northup, whose memoir was adapted into the Oscar-winning movie, 12 Years a Slave.

1. On Tuesday, March 4, the New York Times issued this correction for an article it published on Jan. 20, 1853.

3. The film adaptation of 12 Years a Slave won Best Picture at the 2014 Academy Awards.
