At a U.N. meeting, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that an upcoming U.N. report will confirm that the Assad regime used chemical weapons in the Aug. 21 attack in Syria that killed an estimated 1,400 people.

Ban said, "I believe that the report will be an overwhelming, overwhelming report that chemical weapons (were) used even though I cannot publicly say at this time before I receive this report."

He also added that Assad had "committed many crimes against humanity."

The U.N. report on the potential use of chemical weapons in Syria will be released next week.
