A White House spokesman told BuzzFeed News that this account, like the @POTUS Twitter account, will belong to the next president after he or she takes office.

He skipped a simple status update for his first post and went straight to posting a Facebook video, where he takes a walk through the White House garden while discussing climate change.

"I hope you'll join me in speaking out on climate change and educating your friends about why this issue is so important," Obama said in the post. "At a time when nearly three in four adults online use Facebook, this feels like a great place to do it."

The president has also backfilled his profile with some events from his life, including his two inaugurations.
