A mechanical malfunction with a coroner van's rear door likely was the cause of a bit of a macabre sight when a corpse strapped to a gurney fell from the car and onto a road in Feasterville, Penn. on Friday.
The coroner's office employee realized fairly quickly that the door had opened and the corpse had fallen out of the car outside of a busy shopping center around noon.
Witness Jerry Bradley, who helped push the body out of traffic, snapped a photo of the sheet-wrapped corpse.
"I thought someone was playing a prank. Someone is pranking people," Bradley told the Courier Times. "It was the most bizarre thing I'd ever seen."
The Bucks County Coroner's Office said it "deeply regrets" the incident.
