This isn’t the first time the magazine has controversially used Christie’s image on its cover. In January, after dubbing a very serious-looking Christie “THE BOSS,” the governor joked that he would report the magazine to the “anti-Italian defamation league.”
“I mean, come on,” Christie said at the time. “I can’t wait for that to come home for my kids to see it.”
But this time — with the joke more about Christie’s weight than his tough-guy image — no one is impressed:
I get the double joke (GOP!) but it seems very rude to use the word “elephant” for an overweight person http://t.co/3M2hm9QGp9

TIME MAGAZINE EDITOR is SLIMY SNAKE ! Elephant, really? you know there was chuckling in the newsroom #Christie http://t.co/xVyFPR1P1O
Bipartisan ban on fat jokes, please.
@irin @MarkHalperin @GovChristie @embeedub I’m not a Christie fan by any stretch of the imagination, but fat shaming ANYONE isn’t cool
Attacking Chris Christie’s weight is hack lame & demeaning. Try sharpening up your policy knowledge instead of just fat shaming.
