The next three weeks will see the launch of two major new consoles, the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. That means, of course, a major marketing blitz from both Sony and Microsoft. While ads from both companies have already been hailed as terrifically clever, it's important to remember that time is not always kind to ads for new game consoles. Quite the opposite:
Atari 2600 (1977)
Family Computer (NES in Japan) (1983)
Nintendo Entertainment System (1985)
Atari Lynx (1989)
Game Boy (1989)
Super Nintendo (1991)
Game Gear (1991)
Sega Saturn (1995)
Virtual Boy (1995)
Game Boy Advance (2001)
XBox 360 (2005)
PlayStation 3 (2006)
