U.S. Man Sentenced To 18 Years In Jail For Murdering His Girlfriend's Mother In Bali

Tommy Schaefer of Chicago was convicted for battering Sheila Von Wiese-Mack to death on the Indonesian island in August. His girlfriend, Heather Mack, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for helping him.

Tommy Schaefer, a 21-year-old from Chicago, was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison by an Indonesian court of battering his girlfriend's mother to death, the Associated Press reported.

Denpasar District Court found Schaefer guilty of the murder of 62-year-old Sheila Von Wiese-Mack in her hotel room in Bali in August of last year.

Von Wiese-Mack's daughter, and Schaefer's girlfriend, Heather Mack, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for helping Schaefer with the murder. The pair were on trial separately in the same courtroom with the same judges and prosecutors.

Von Wiese-Mack's body was found in a suitcase in the back of a taxi at the St. Regis Bali Resort. Schaefer and Mack were arrested the following day.
