With the Powerball jackpot now at $1.5 billion, millions of hopefuls have rushed to spend their good, hard-earned, cash on a one in nearly 300 million chance of winning.
When the jackpot was at a mere $500 million, one aspiring millionaire in Primm, Nevada, was asked what he would do with his winnings, his answer was honest, grounded, and realistic. And also thoroughly illegal.
"Bunch of hookers and cocaine," the man responded frankly.
The Fox 5 local news reporter laughed in shock at the man's admirable truthfulness and said, "Oh no, that's not good, that's not the answer we were looking for."
At first the honest samaritan looked as if he were going to apologize, but then thought better of it, and turned back to the task of filling out the bubbles on his lottery ticket.
For why must one apologize for truth?
"500 million dollars can make a huge difference in someone's life," Fox 5 anchor Christine Maddela remarked wisely, as the screen quickly cut away to her.
"Isn't live TV grand?" Maddela's co-anchor, John Huck, asked the audience, a fond twinkle in his eye.
If his dreams haven't changed since the pot hit the billions, the man could be rolling in his dreams on Wednesday.
