"Buffy" Star Nicholas Brendon Heads Back To Rehab After Pleading Guilty To Criminal Mischief

The actor had been accused of choking his girlfriend.

Nicholas Brendon, one of the stars of the hit TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, pled guilty to criminal mischief in upstate New York on Friday after he was accused of choking his girlfriend.

Brendon, who played sidekick Xander in Buffy, was arrested in Saratoga Springs on Sept. 30 after police said he had a drunken fight with his girlfriend.

Officials first charged him with third-degree robbery, a felony, as well as two counts of criminal mischief and one count of obstruction of breathing.

But on Friday Brendon pled guilty to one misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief, according to the Albany Times Union.

A city judge issued him with a "conditional discharge," the newspaper reported, meaning he will serve no jail time if he completes drug and alcohol counseling and does not break the law for a year.

"Based upon our review of the facts and circumstances of this case, and after speaking with the victim, we believe justice was served," District Attorney Karen Heggen told the Times Union.

His attorney told the newspaper Brendon left a Florida clinic he had been in since his arrest in order to enter the guilty plea, before immediately returning to the facility for further treatment.

In a Facebook post Saturday, Brendon said he was heading back to treatment for issues linked to depression.
