Busta Rhymes Arrested For Assaulting A New York City Gym Worker With A Protein Shake

Rapper Busta Rhymes was arrested and charged with felony assault after he chucked a strawberry shake at a gym employee's head in Chelsea.

Busta Rhymes posted this photo after his release, thanking "everyone who helped expedite this evening for me. I'm good and we're back to the grind. Heading 2 the studio 2 turn the bullshit into GREATNESS. I'm super good. #THECONGLOMERATE"

The rapper, whose real name is Trevor Smith, was arrested Wednesday for assaulting a gym employee at Steel gym in Chelsea with a strawberry-flavored protein shake.

Rhymes 43, threw a "cardboard container of Lean Body protein shake strawberry flavored at an employee of the Steel gym," according to an NYPD spokesperson. The two “had an ongoing dispute” that escalated from “throwing water at each other,” into this confrontation, police said. The alleged victim was treated at the scene for bruising, swelling, and substantial pain.

Rhymes was charged with felony assault in the second degree by the Manhattan District Attorney. His attorney Scott Leemon told BuzzFeed News that Rhymes was released on his own recognizance at 1 a.m. and his next court date is set for Nov. 6.

Leemon added, “These charges are a bunch of bull. This is another attempt of someone trying to take advantage of Busta’s celebrity status. I am confident that he will be vindicated."

An employee at Steel gym, where the incident took place, said the phone had been ringing off the hook with reporter calls this morning but that he didn't know anything about the incident.
