Cheney, speaking to Fox News' Bret Baier Wednesday, called the Senate report released this week "full of crap."

"You're on cable," Baier reminded him.

"That's OK, you can bleep it," Cheney responded.

The former vice president, who took a leading role on national security while in office, later said he had not read the report, which is about 6,000 pages long.

"I've seen parts of it," he said. "I've read summaries."

Cheney would not comment on specific instances of ill-treatment, including the "rectal feeding" of prisoners. But he said he and President George W. Bush were fully informed of approved interrogation techniques — including water boarding — and applauded the work of the CIA.

"The men and women of the CIA did exactly what we wanted to have them do in terms of taking on this program," he said.

"It was not deemed torture by the lawyers, and secondly, it worked," he added.
