FLORENCE, South Carolina—Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign boldly — and musically — declared victory here, blasting Queen’s “We Are The Champions” at a rally here.
The song was preceded, as per custom, by Queen’s “We Will Rock You” — though neither song is usually featured at Romney events.
The selection, coming on the heels of Romney’s de facto victory in last night’s Fox News / Wall Street Journal debate, reflects how confident the Romney team has become in recent weeks — especially as social conservatives remain split between Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum.
Later, the campaign played Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust,” — another new song — perhaps a reference to Jon Huntsman dropping out of the race for the White House yesterday.
