GOP Won't Rule Out Convention Extension, Releases Updated Schedule

    The latest from Tampa.

TAMPA — With soon-to-be Hurricane Isaac barreling down on the Gulf Coast, Republican National Convention planners say they are still planning on beginning the first day of convention business on Tuesday.

But Romney senior adviser and Convention planner Russ Schriefer wouldn't rule out a reported extension of the convention to Friday if the storm appears ready to cause extensive damage along the Louisiana and Mississippi coastline.

"We're planning on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday," he said. "If the weather changes in a way...it's a hypothetical question."

The convention announced that Romney will be formally nominated on Tuesday afternoon, and rebooked nearly all of the speakers bumped when Monday's proceedings were cancelled due to expected Tropical Storm-force winds near Tampa.
