It must be nice being a Snyder appointee, friend or family member. Why? Because Gov. Snyder has a well-documented history of letting them do whatever they want.

It helps to have friends - or family - in high places. After cutting $1 billion from education, Gov. Snyder decided to increase his cousin George Snyder’s furniture contract to $41 million a year - more than doubling it.

Well, that was fast. Within 48 hours of Scott Woosley’s prolific spending coming to light, he had already tendered his resignation. All told, Scott Woosley managed to rack up more than $200,000 on the taxpayers’ tab before resigning in disgrace.

While Michiganders struggle, Gov. Snyder gives his high-ranking appointees a 90% raise

Michigan’s chief investment officer, Jon Braeutigam, got a 90% pay raise: from $175,000 to $330,000 per year. Likewise, two senior investment directors, Robert Brackenbury and Greg Parker, received 82% pay increases: from $128,000 to $233,000 per year. How’s that for simple, fair and efficient?

Snyder appointee Andy Dillon is forced to resign in disgrace, still gets paid

Following a series of messy personal scandals, Snyder appointee Andy Dillon (former state treasurer) was forced to resign in disgrace. Nonetheless, Dillon continued to draw his $175,000 taxpayer-funded salary as an “advisor” to his successor while on vacation. Try and finagle that deal with your employer.

EAA Chancellor John Covington spends $240,000 on chauffeurs and Ikea, Detroit schools continue to struggle

While Detroit schools in the Education Achievement Authority failed to best their public school counterparts, EAA Chancellor John Covington racked up $240,000 in expenses, including: (1) $178,000 on hotel and airfare traipsing around the United States, (2) $10,000 in gas for his chauffeured car, (3) $25,000 at IKEA and (4) $8,000 combined at Amazon.com, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Meijer, Home Depot and Lowe’s.
