Toothless meets the light fury in How to Train Your Dragon: the Hidden World. And when they go on their 'first date' he does really weird things such as the one above. But really this could actually be one way to attract a female where he originally came from. His father would be a night fury (obviously) but what we have to think about is his mother. Toothless's mother might've been a light fury, but we don't really know that. So Toothless could actually be trying to impress light fury in the way his mother taught him. But we all know, it's really funny to watch this.
