Response to 14 Times People Dressed As People Of Other Races For Halloween And Managed Not To Be Offensive:
Isn’t there a difference between putting on makeup to make you look like a black celebrity/character, and wearing ‘blackface’, which as I understood it was literally black boot polish, big caricature red lipstick and wild afro hair? A big difference between ‘blackface’ which is just parodying the stereotypes of black people in general, which is obviously racist, and dressing up as a specific character? I think maybe oversensitive folk have misunderstood what ‘blackface’ means and are using it incorrectly and out of context. I saw Ben Kingsly’s oscar-winning performance as Gandhi. He had makeup on. Not ‘blackface’.
