David, please do not visit me in my sleep, thank you!

How about this one? Ringing any bells?

A blurry small child with a dented head stands in a dark room

If so, you probably followed the massively viral ghost story about "Dear David," the creepy and malevolent spirit that haunted former BuzzFeed artist Adam Ellis, which he chronicled on Twitter in 2017.

So, my apartment is currently being haunted by the ghost of a dead child and he's trying to kill me. (thread)

Adam chronicled a series of mysterious happenings in his apartment that year: His cats stared at the door every night at midnight. He recorded video of furniture moving on its own. Most commonly, he had several nights of sleep paralysis combined with disturbing visions and dreams involving a mysterious child with a misshapen head. A girl in one of the dreams named him: Dear David.

I won't go into every detail, but you can read the entire saga here, if you're curious or need a refresher!

Well, guess what...the story is now being adapted into a feature film by Lionsgate and BuzzFeed Studios!

    Title card for "Dear David"

Dear David stars Augustus Prew as a fictionalized version of Adam. He even works at BuzzFeed in the movie!

Against the advice of his friend and coworker (Andrea Bang), he spends one night clapping back at Twitter trolls.

But he gets a follow and a weird message from this mysterious account...

A "Dear David" twitter account replies to Adam, "Why are you so mean?"

And later that night...he suffers from sleep paralysis and sees THIS:

Adam is convinced the mysterious apparition has something to do with the Twitter account...

And just like in real life, he writes a viral BuzzFeed article about it.

BuzzFeed headline: My Apartment Is Being Haunted By The Ghost Of A Dead Child

    The more Adam investigates David...

    ...the darker this story gets.

A woman holds a large object over a child's head who smiles menacingly

(Dear God, I will never unsee this face.)

    A child smiles menacingly

    (Or this one)

A creepy screaming person with dark eyes

What's going on here??? Who exactly *is* David??? I'm scared to find out.

On a lighter note, I appreciate all the attention to detail in recreating moments from the original thread.
