@CTgirlproblems is a twitter stream with over 20,000 followers run by an anonymous person who either loves to perpetuate awful stereotypes — or is an awful stereotype themself. The feed consists of the kind of musings you might expect from the account: on weather, clothes, wealth, brands, and Starbucks. But what it also includes are a smattering of derogatory comments about people who aren’t wealthy, people who aren’t Christian, and bizarre justifications for knowing nothing but white, suburban culture.
To me, someone who grew up in the state and still visits family there frequently, it is disgusting — but you can judge for yourself by looking at a sampling of tweets:
- Donald Trump promised insurance for everyone this weekend, but Senate Republicans say they assume he misspoke.
- President Barack Obama shortened Chelsea Manning's 35-year sentence for leaking documents to WikiLeaks. She'll be freed in May.
- Blue Lies Matter: Video finally proved that police officers lie — and why they get away with it.
- A Toronto man is on a mission to bathe at a different stranger's house every day this month. And so far, so good 🛀
