I Ranked All 11 Disney Princess Solo Ballads From My Least Faves To Top Picks, And It Was Surprisingly Super Difficult

If you don't get up and dance to "Almost There," you're doing it wrong.

11. “Someday My Prince Will Come” (Snow White)

The first princess song is the least memorable. I find it very boring and Snow White's voice is also more annoying than pleasant.

10. "Once Upon a Dream" (Aurora)

I almost switched this to "I Wonder," given that "Once Upon a Dream" is a duet. But either way, Sleeping Beauty songs are very plain and don't resonate with me. At least her voice sounds lovely.

9. "A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes" (Cinderella)

This is a very sweet song and I love Cinderella voice, but these earlier Disney princess songs don't hold a candle to the more emotional ballads that progress in later stories and reflect on the princesses' desires and ambitions.

8. "Belle" (Belle)

While this is Belle's song, it's also a group number which takes away from letting Belle truly shine. But we do get that lovely refrain after she turns down Gaston's marriage proposal that reiterates Belle's yearning for more.

7. "When Will My Life Begin" (Rapunzel)

Tangled's Rapuznel is one of my favorite princesses, so I'm surprised that her solo song ranks this low. This is a fun number that is a wonderful introduction to her character, but just not as strong as other songs on this list.

6. "Part of Your World" (Ariel)

I definitely thought this song would make the top three. I know every word to it and love to sing it at the top of my lungs. The lyrics are clever and who doesn't love Jodi Benson's singing voice. This song is a solid 8/10, which just goes to show the strength of these Disney princess ballads.

5. "Almost There" (Tiana)

The jazzy beat, Anika Noni Rose's singing voice, the fun visualization of Tiana's dream. This song is so inspiring and every time it's on I have to get up to dance to it. I love that the song is about Tiana's career-oriented dream of opening her own restaurant — she is a true role model.

4. "Speechless" (Jasmine)

Now here is where I know I am going to get some hate — first off, for using a live-action song versus original animated like the rest of this list and secondly, for ranking it so high. But in the original Aladdin, Jasmine's only song is a love duet and I wanted this list to be solo ballads that are all about them. And boy, does this song fit that bill. Even if you aren't a fan of the live-action, I urge you to just listen to the lyrics of this song, since they are so powerful. Jasmine is demanding power in a man-dominated world and Naomi Scott's voice made the song even stronger.

3. "Colors of the Wind" (Pocahontas)

I almost went with "Just Around the Riverbend" and it made me realize that Pocahontas is the only princess that has two fully solo songs, which is impressive on its own. But "Colors of the Wind" is what most people think of first (if I am wrong, apologies). Again, I love how strong the lyrics are as she is schooling John Smith about the world. The melody is wonderful and I think it has some of the most memorable animated shots, especially all the beautiful leaves and hair blowing artwork.

2. "How Far I'll Go" (Moana)

The first time I heard this song it brought tears to my eyes; and I still get emotional listening to it. It's a beautiful song about a young girl trying to figure out where she belongs in the world. The only thing I hate, and I know it's intentional, is the different intonation in the line "what's wrong with me."

1. "Reflection" (Mulan)

Maybe it's the nostalgia, but this song still speaks to my soul. Someone who feels so out of place and just longing to find comfort in being herself. I still play it constantly when I need a reminder that it's okay to be imperfect, but everything about this song is perfection and that is why I rank it as the number one princess song.
