This Woman Had A Brilliant Reply To Someone Who Said She'd Look Better If She Had Lighter Skin

“I want all my dark skin girls to know that we are chocolate goddesses no matter what anyone says!” Mimi Mbah told BuzzFeed News.

This is 19-year-old Mimi Mbah. She's a college student and aspiring model from Gaithersburg, Maryland.

A Twitter page called @_AFRICANS_, which is "dedicated to all the beautiful Africans worldwide", shared Mbah's Instagram pictures because duh, she looks incredible. Her pictures received lots of compliments.

But also some horrid ones. "[If] she was lighter, she'd be fire," one said.

Mbah didn't take this lightly and delivered a brilliant clapback which gained over 56,000 likes and 20,000 retweets.

Mbah told BuzzFeed News: "I wasn't surprised when I first received that tweet but I was definitely disappointed."

The reason she wasn't surprised was because she has seen dark-skinned women shamed for no other reason than being themselves online. "It's happened to me before and I think almost every dark skin girl can say the same too," she said.

She added: "I'm glad my tweet went viral because now I feel like I have a platform which I want to use to talk about things like that and give advice to other dark skin women who are going through similar situations and probably blaming themselves for it.

She felt it was important to reply to the comment because: "I actually wanted people to see that colorism is still real."

Although Mbah said she wasn't surprised by the tweet mentioned above, there was one tweet she shared on her Instagram that she felt "offended by the most". "It's just so sad," she added.

Many people were applauding Mbah for replying.

Others said they were sick of this rhetoric being repeated time and time again.

"A lot of people are actually shocked that someone would say such a thing – now people can see that this is why some dark skin girls are not the most confident!" Mbah said.

Some people who have received similar comments backed her up too.

While most were pretty much in awe of Mbah's slay.

"Overall I want all my dark skin girls to know that we are chocolate goddesses no matter what anyone says!" Mbah said.
