A young child's heartrending Christmas letter to their dead father was found tied to a balloon in a field in Dunfermline, Fife, according to the Dunfermline Press.
The letter was subsequently shared on the Bournemouth Echo's Twitter account, where it was retweeted over 1,300 times.
The man who found the letter, Stuart McColl, told the Dunfermline Press that the note was "just too sad to ignore" and that he was keen to find the child who wrote it. McColl said he has never done anything like this before and hopes others can help with this "really tragic story".
He went on to add: "It's a bit of an ambitious thing to do but the story seems to have touched quite a few people already.
"It really is the dream to find the person who wrote this note. It's quite a unique story so hopefully someone knows something."
The letter reads:
Hi dad just writing you a letter to tell you I'm missing you and tell you news!
I'm sure you know I'm in foster :( cause mom is sick and my ear is blocked from MONDAY what
Tommorow we're leaving
I really miss school and you, I know your up in heaven but are you safe?
Oh ya before I go here's my dream and xmas list
My dream: My dream is for you my daddy to put under my pillow a note that you wrote. :)
My xmas list: boots/studs, Astros, rebounder net, new Premier League ball, Real Madrid jersey and shorts, and Rubik cube
Bye daddy love you

The tearjerking letter has left many emotionally shattered.
People have shown a great deal of sympathy for the child.
Many want to fulfil the child's Christmas wishes and buy them presents once they are found.
People are also calling on the Real Madrid team to donate a signed football shirt.
