This is Naomi Jael Covert, a 21-year-old from Vilseck, Germany. She is a full-time army wife. Here she is with her 10-month-old son, TJ.
Her husband is in the US Army and is currently deployed for nine months.
A few days ago, Covert posted a picture of herself breastfeeding TJ at a wedding on Instagram. The picture has gone viral since it was reposted on empoweredbirthproject's Instagram account, and has over 12,000 likes.
The picture also has over 3,000 likes on Covert's own Instagram account.
She told BuzzFeed News she was shocked when she woke up the next day to find the picture had gone viral, since she had posted nursing pictures in the past.
Covert said she is aware that tons of mums are scared to feed their babies in public, especially at big events like weddings. "I wanted to show that it's literally no big deal to breastfeed," she said, "no matter the circumstances."
"I made the silly face because it's literally not a big deal to feed your baby," she said. "It's just a breast; that's what God gave me to use when baby is hungry."
Covert said she chose not to cover up while breastfeeding because TJ would "rip it off in no time".
She said its's nice to see the amount of love the picture is receiving.
However, the fitness enthusiast said she was "shocked" by comments telling her to "hide under a rock" or "throw a blanket on". Even worse, she said, was people telling her to "pump and bring a bottle".
She felt it was ironic that people "'like' girls on Insta with crop tops and big cleavage[s] but call feeding a baby at a wedding horrible".
However, she said all the wedding guests were happy for TJ to be fed: "It's just normal – you have conversations with people while feeding the child." In fact, people helped her unhook her dress. "It is nothing sexual," she said. "It's just another person eating."
Covert said she has breastfed TJ at "grocery stores, airports, [on an] airplane, courthouse – oh and yes, even at the church on the wedding day".
