25 Products I've Tried Myself, And They're Actually Amazing

Tried, tested, and totally worth it.

    1. This Mario Badescu silver powder that's basically like a plunger for clogged pores. The powdered sugar-like formula is actually a powerful combo of kaolin clay, zinc oxide, and calcium carbonate that'll help immediately shrink the appearance of your pores, suck out the gunky build-up, AND mattify your complexion.

    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

Because I have reactive skin, I read a TON about this powder before I tested it. Knowing it's made of naturally-derived ingredients is a big bonus! There's a slight tingly sensation as the product dries on the skin, but I didn't notice any irritation or reaction at all. My skin felt velvety soft, and my pores looked almost invisible, not to mention clean as a whistle. Application might be a tiny bit messy (I looked like I was covered in icing sugar about three minutes in), but it's 100% worth it.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the Mario Badescu Silver Powder (it's #3).

Get it on Amazon Canada for $15.97.

    2. A pair of silicone face scrubbies that'll amp up the efficacy of your cleanser and help you waste less product in the process. These lightweight pads have silky-soft bristles that won't irritate sensitive skin, and feature a handy suction cup handle, so it won't slip out of your hand the next time you're performing your ablutions.

    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

I've noticed that I only need about half as much product as I'd normally use to clean my face— a true blessing for anyone who enjoys saving a bit of money each month. The tiny silicone fronds are way better at removing makeup than my hands alone, and unlike more expensive face brushes, there are no heads to replace or batteries to recharge.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the Silicone Face Scrubbers (it's #8).

Get a two-pack on Amazon Canada for $13.99.

    3. An essential oil roll-on that's basically a PMS-fighting, fresh-smelling, migraine-busting, cramp-eliminating miracle. It's an awesome all-natural remedy for those days when everything sucks, and you just need a little pick-me-up.

A person holds the roll-on between their fingers
    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

I know it's ~technically~ supposed to be targeted at PMS symptoms, but in truth, it can be anything you want it to be. I've used it to ease cramps, relieve muscle tension, and as a drug-free solution to headaches. The blend of relaxing clary sage, zippy peppermint, floral geranium, and zesty lemon oil is a genius combination that not only feels great, but smells fantastic, too. I love that it comes in a glass bottle, which preserves the integrity of the high-quality essential oils a LOT better than plastic.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the Blume Cloud 9 Roll-On (it's #11).

Get it at Sephora Canada for $21.

    4. This travel-sized shoe cleaning kit that'll clean leather, suede, canvas, and even finicky nubuck. The formula, made of coconut extracts and jojoba oil, is gentle on skin and leather, and ~wildly~ effective at removing stains, scuffs, and grime. Your shoes will look almost as good as the day you bought them.

    Victoria Kuglin/buzzFeed

It's honestly magic. Just a few scrubs later, my lovely Birks were restored not just to a wearable level, but to near-new status. Since this pocket-size wonder contains enough ingredients to clean over 50 pairs of footwear, I'm convinced it was totally worth it.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the Crep Protect Cure Shoe Cleaning Travel Kit (it's #2).

Get it on Amazon Canada for $26.99.

    5. These oversized gold eye masks that'll give your entire eye area some major TLC (because undereyes shouldn't have all the fun). They're packed with hydrating hyaluronic acid and peptides that'll help give tired, puffy eyes a visible boost (no matter how late you stayed up binge-watching Netflix).

    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

Sure, it took me an extra few seconds to put on each patch (so gooey!) but the results were 100% worth the effort. They managed to de-puff my sleepy eyes, brighten up my dark circles, and leave my skin looking glowy as heck, even after a late night of assembling IKEA furniture.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the SDARA 24k gold eye masks (they're #10 on the list).

Get six pairs on Amazon Canada for $17.96.

    6. This face mask spray that'll freshen up those stinky face coverings in a flash. Unlike other similar products, this one is made of all-natural essential oils that won't infuse your mask with gross chemical smells. (Though you should still throw your face masks in the wash regularly to get them thoroughly clean.)

    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

A quick spritz of this lavender-scented spray was enough to banish any unpleasant smells — not to mention that the addition of tea tree oil makes it naturally anti-septic. Sensitive to scents? Thankfully, the smell softens really quickly, so you won't get an annoying headache the next time you mask up. The ultra-fine mist means you won't end up with a soggy face covering, either.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the Face Mask Refreshing Spray (it's #4).

Get it from Amazon Canada for $13.50.

    7. A gentle jelly cleanser that'll clean your face and remove your makeup, without stripping your skin of moisture. It's non-drying, making it perfect for people who suffer from parched skin.

A flatlay of the facial cleanser surrounded by flowers, textiles and facial scrubbers
    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

All you need is two pumps to get your face squeaky clean, no matter how much makeup you're wearing. It's low foaming, and won't sting if you accidentally get a bit in your eyes (me). The combo of rose and coconut waters help quell irritation and leave my skin feeling extra happy, too.

Get it from Sephora Canada for $32.

    8. This wildly supportive sports bra that'll stay in place (and keep your ta-tas in check) throughout every workout. The wide straps are completely adjustable, and the hook-and-eye clasp makes removal super easy, no matter how sweaty and sticky you are. It also wicks away moisture, so you can say goodbye to underboob sweat, too.

    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

It has supportive and comfortable straps (not teeny-weeny spaghetti versions) that don't make me feel like I'm about to be sliced in half with dental floss. I love the high-rise front, since I'm not really keen on getting a face full of titty while I sweat it out. Plus, my gals stayed put through my entire workout, with no loose nipples, no underboob, and no sliding straps.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the UA Infinity Mid Sports Bra (it's #10).

Get it from Under Armour for $50 (available in three colours and in sizes XS-XL).

    9. A calming body wash that'll help detox your skin, without leaving behind any residue or overpowering scents. It's packed with green tea extract, cucumber, and seaweed, meaning it won't leave your skin feeling dry or tight.

A flatlay of the bottle of body wash on a botanical-print background
    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

The soft fragrance dissipates quickly, so you can still apply your fave lotion or perfume right after, without worrying that the scents will clash. Plus, it's completely vegan, totally biodegradable, and free of parabens and other gunk. It even works great as a foamy bubble bath!

Get it on Amazon Canada for $6.99 (also available in Pure Peace, Energy Boost, and Simply Nourish).

    10. This handy little touching tool that'll let you open doors, use ATMs, press elevator buttons, and tap in your credit card PIN without ever touching anything with your hands. It's made of antimicrobial copper and is super lightweight, which means you can stash it in your pocket or attach it to your keys for easy use on the go.

    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

I was able to open even the heaviest doors with relative ease, and thanks to the silicone touchscreen tips, I could flip between paying for groceries and answering texts in seconds. What about push doors, you may ask? NOT AN ISSUE! I just attached the tips to the end and used them to gently prod doors open — no slip, no scratches. Push, pull, tap, grab — this lil' guy does it all, and keeps your hands germ free in the process.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the Touché Tool (it's #1).

Get it from Amazon Canada for $12.99+ (available in three colours and in packs of three).

    11. This rose petal-infused toner that'll help shrink the appearance of pores, while delivering some pretty legit hydration to dry, dull skin. It has angelica leaf extract and hyaluronic acid, too, so moisture stays locked in all day long.

A person holds a half-empty bottle of the toner against their face
    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

I use this baby every day (okay, twice a day), and I've noticed that it also helps quell any red, angry breakouts and active pimples— compliments of the hefty dose of soothing rosewater!

Get it from Sephora Canada for $33+ (available in two sizes).

    12. A super-hydrating facial moisturizer that'll help even out your skin tone and texture, and protect your complexion from sun damage in the process. Plus, the tiny, light-diffusing particles will give you a gorgeous, lit-from-within glow the second you swipe it on.

    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

I found that a lot of skincare products that allegedly helped with tone and texture were actually harsh, drying, or just plain ineffective. But Aveeno really got this one right! It smells great and absorbs right into the skin, so you're never left with a greasy on your face. Plus, it has built-in SPF, which is great if you (like me) are forgetful about your sun protectin.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer (it's #11).

Get it on Amazon Canada for $14.79.

    13. These foaming Mr. Clean Magic Erasers that'll make your dingy bathroom sparkle and shine. Like their OG cousins, they're super tough on grime and dirt. In just a few swipes, hard water stains and other bathroom muck will disappear like magic.

    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

I loathe cleaning my bathroom, so I'm always on the hunt for products that'll make it easier and less time-consuming. There's honestly nothing I don't love about these scrubbers — they're even infused with Febreze, so they leave my bathroom smelling fresh as a daisy (and not like bleach). It tackled everything from soap scum to mildew, and even got my fixtures gleaming like new.

Get a two-pack from Home Depot for $1.60.

    14. This jade roller that'll not only help in the absorption of all your skincare, but will feel really frickin' good. Is it just a gimmick? Is it a passing fad? I don't know, and I don't care, because trust me when I say that rollin' this baby has really improved my self-care game.

    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

I pop this little gem in the fridge for a few minutes, and then slowly roll it over my face in the morning and before bed. The smaller end tucks neatly under my eyes to help wake up sleepy-looking peepers. I've noticed that my face is less puffy (thanks, lymphatic drainage!), and that the effects of my skincare are decidedly amplified. Plus, regular jade rolling helps alleviate facial tension, and relaxes those pesky, tight muscles.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the Mount Lai Jade Roller (it's #6).

Get from Sephora Canada for $30+ (available in two sizes).

    15. A pair of over-ear Bluetooth headphones that'll deliver great-quality sound all day long. They have a padded headband and incredibly cushy pads that won't smoosh your ears, no matter how long you wear them.

A smiling person wearing the over the ear headphones while looking off-camera
    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

First off, they're incredibly lightweight. Like, 'wear all day and never get a headache' kind of lightweight (#bless). These guys also include a slew of neat little features that make using them super easy to use, like a toggle knob that allows you to switch songs, change the volume, and even answer phone calls — without ever having to take out your phone.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the Urban Ears Plattan II Bluetooth headphones (they're #6).

Get them from Amazon Canada for $82.05+ (available in eight colours).

    16. A NARS Velvet matte lip pencil that will give your lippies the vibrant, defined colour you want, without fading sloppily throughout the day. Unlike other matte lipsticks, this one is non-drying, so your kisser won't feel parched after a few swipes.

    Nars / Via instagram.com, Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

This is one of the only cosmetics I repeatedly buy, because it looks great all year long. My personal favourite feature is that it fades into a wonderful, crimson stain on the lips after longer wear, and doesn't leave that annoying lipstick ring that looks like I sloppily drank Kool-Aid. Because it's a lip pencil, it's much easier to apply than a traditional lipstick, so you don't need to be a makeup ~artiste~ to apply it.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil (it's #1).

Get it from Sephora Canada for $35 (available in 23 shades).

    17. This wearable acupressure tool that reviewers say has basically eliminated their chronic headaches and sinus pain altogether. Since it's wearable and completely adjustable, you can pop it on and go about your day — set it and forget it, baby!

    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

I've had headaches all my life and just accepted that ibuprofen was my new best friend. After trying this, I'm ready to break up with traditional pain meds and make the switch, because this lil' guy is no joke. The first time I wore it, my nagging migraine was gone in under half an hour.

Get it from Amazon Canada for $26.75 (available in three colours).

    18. This Living Proof dry shampoo that'll suck the oil and dirt right off your hair. It has a clean, refreshing scent that'll mask any second-day smells, and makes a fantastic texturizer for short hair, too.

A person holds a bottle of the dry shampoo against a leafy backdrop
    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

It doesn't leave behind a white cast like other dry shampoos do — a blessing for brunettes like me! I love keeping a travel-sized bottle of this in my bag to refresh my hair after a long day, or to ~zhuzh~ up hat hair in the wintertime.

Get it from Sephora Canada for $18+ (available in three sizes). Also available in a value pack.

    19. These food-safe silicone bags that'll give you a place to stash snacks, fruit, makeup, or even wet clothes. The pinch-lock system protects your stuff, so you could even use them to cook your dinner ~en sous-wide~, if that's more your vibe.

A flatlay of the silicone bags, all containing fresh produce, like radishes, lettuce, and asparagus
    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

They don't have any BPA (an industrial chemical that's present in a LOT of plastic products), meaning they're safe for things like fresh fruits and veggies! I love that they're dishwasher safe, meaning I don't have to spend aeons cleaning debris out of them. The leak-proof locking system is genius, too — unlike regular zip-lock bags, they don't open from the middle, but have special tabs at the sides, so they'll never accidentally pop open.

Get it from Amazon Canada for $29.99 (also available in sandwich size and as a stand-up bag).

    20. A Himalayan cashmere throw blanket that will double as a super-warm scarf to keep you toasty through the chilly months. Winter weather squalls don't stand a chance!

    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

This blanket can be used as a cozy scarf, a luxe throw, or a meditation rug. I really love using it as a super soft layer during the transitional seasons! It's also an AMAZING travel accessory, especially during freezing car or train rides. It rolls up pretty small, so I can tuck it into my purse or carry-on easily.

Check out BuzzFeed's full review of the Himalayan Cashmere Throw (it's #8).

Get it from Amazon Canada for $99.99+ (available in ten colours).

    21. This all-natural Herbivore Blue Tansy clarifying mask that'll exfoliate away any buildup on your skin, while also ~chilling out~ angry breakouts. The cooling gel is infused with fruit enzymes and white willow bark that'll soothe irritation — perfect for any unwelcome blemishes.

A flatlay of the face mask surrounded by a facial brush and a natural sponge
    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

I normally have pretty good skin, but every once in a while I get a zit that's a real doozy. All I need is 10 minutes with this mask for my pimples to look way less visible! I love the gentle exfoliating action because it speeds up my skin's healing process, so I end up with less discolouration on my face and a smoother complexion.

Get it from Sephora Canada for $63.

    22. These twinkly firefly lights that'll add some ambiance to your space, without taking up precious real estate. They're dimmable and incredibly easy to operate — no battery packs here!

A close up of the firefly lights strung up on a ceiling
    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

Living in an apartment has its downsides — like only having windows on one side of your home. In an effort to brighten up our home office, I decided to string up these firefly lights, and boy, has the game changed. We keep them on all day long and dim them down in the evenings, so we can avoid using harsh overhead lighting. Before you ask: They use a microscopic amount of power, so there won't be an uptick in your hydro bill.

Get them on Amazon Canada for $25.99+ (available in four lengths).

    23. This eyelash-enhancing serum that'll help your lashes grow up big and strong. It'll not only improve their overall health, but also boost density and length to give you the fluttery look you've been dreaming of.

A person holds the lash conditioner between their fingers against a graphic backdrop
    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

I'm a die-hard eyelash extension fan, so finding a product that was compatible with my extensions was a huge win for me. I love that the formula is naturally derived and doesn't irritate my skin. Plus, it's free of yucky synthetics, like mineral oil, silicone, dyes, and petrochemicals, because I don't want any of that anywhere near my face.

Get it from Sephora Canada for $100.

    24. This volumizing powder spray that'll take your hairstyle to new heights. This magic dust is easy to apply, so you can create volume and texture right where you need it.

A flatlay of the hair dust surrounded by fresh leafs and a blow drying brush
    Victoria Kuglin/BuzzFeed

I use this product every 👏 single 👏 day 👏. Some volumizing products end up leaving my hair feeling sticky, gritty, or just plain greasy — but not this one. It dispenses into a lightweight cloud, meaning I never have to worry about over-applying. It's just a bonus that it smells fantastic, too.

Get it from Sephora Canada for $33.

    25. And lastly, this Buddha's Blend tea from DAVIDsTEA that's the optimal combination of floral jasmine petals with just a hint of peachy freshness. In addition to being full of antioxidants, this white and green tea blend will deliver a nice dose of caffeine (without giving you the jimmy legs).

A glass mug of the tea against a backdrop of tulips
    Victoria Kuglin / Via BuzzFeed

It's equally as good iced as it is hot, which means I can enjoy this tea year-round. Plus, it doesn't turn bitter if I leave it steeping for too long. I love drinking it mid-afternoon, during that weird time when it's too late to drink coffee but too early to go to bed, and it picks me right up! Make sure you also grab some biodegradable tea filters, too, if you're not a fan of loose leaves.

Get a 100-gram bag on Amazon Canada for $27.98.
