Location, location, location. Anyone who wants to be close to action know’s downtown Iowa City is the place to be. With restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues in walking distance, living downtown will never leave you bored. The Iowa City Downtown District hosts a number of events throughout the year that showcase the food, art, music, and business that make our community unique. Don’t miss out, live downtown!

Downtown

As one of the city’s oldest areas, the Northside and Goosetown neighborhoods are known for their charming atmosphere and historic homes. One unique characteristic of the Northside and Goosetown neighborhoods is their diverse mix of residents. Due to their close proximity to Downtown and the University of Iowa, the two communities are inhabited by anyone ranging from college students to retired couples. Whether you’re looking for shopping, entertainment, food, or relaxation, you will not be disappointed. The two neighborhoods provide a perfect balance between the bustle of downtown and peaceful ambiance of a residential community.

Northside/Goosetown

Anyone who has set foot in the Longfellow neighborhood can attest to its aura of charm. With beautiful Victorian-style houses lining Summit street, sweet-treats at Deluxe Cakes and Pastries, and trees blanketing every street, it’s hard not to fall in love this neighborhood. Residents of the Longfellow district pride their neighborhood on its community-oriented atmosphere, and its proximity to downtown Iowa City.

When you move into the Lucas Farms neighborhood, you are joining a close knit community that embraces eccentricity, takes initiative on neighborhood projects, and celebrates the diversity which makes the neighborhood unique. The Lucas Farm Neighborhood Association regularly hosts events focused on celebrating the neighborhood’s history and getting residents better acquainted. In addition to a welcoming community, residents of Lucas Farms will love its close proximity to Iowa City hotspots. With the Iowa City Marketplace a short walk away, residents of Lucas Farms have easy access to grocery shopping at Lucky’s Market, dining at restaurants, entertainment at Marcus Sycamore Cinema, and more.

Lucas Farms

Found on the west side of Iowa City, Manville Heights is close to the University of Iowa. Several homes were built in the earlier half of the 20th century, and the area has the distinction of being the most architecturally diverse neighborhood in the city. Manville Heights is also considered desirable to residents because of its proximity to the University of Iowa, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and downtown.

Manville Heights

Located on the east side of Iowa City, the Morningside and Glendale neighborhoods are in close proximity to Regina, City High, and several elementary schools, making it the perfect area for families with children. In addition to the great location, residents enjoy the safe and peaceful atmosphere that is present in both neighborhoods. Do you enjoy walking, running, or cross country skiing? Residents and community members alike can stay active year-round at Hickory Hill park, which is located down the hill on First Avenue.

Morningside/Glendale

Different. Charming. Friendly. Those are just a few words to describe the unique environment of the Peninsula neighborhood. Consciously crafted to accommodate a mix of housing options, public gathering areas, and retail spaces, the Peninsula radiates a sense of community.   
With a dog park conveniently located down the road and bicycle paths connecting the neighborhoods to Coralville, Iowa City, the Waterworks Prairie Park, and beyond, the Peninsula Neighborhood is perfect for individuals and families looking to live an active lifestyle.

University Heights is perfect for Iowa City’s young urban professional residents. The majority of residents have earned a bachelor’s degree or higher, and most homeowners and renters in the area have jobs at executive or manager levels. Want to bike to work? Then University Heights will be ideal; many residents put pedal to pavement for their morning commutes.

University Heights

Located on the Southeast side of Iowa City, the Wetherby and Grant neighborhoods provide residents with endless opportunities to get outdoors. Searching for a family-friendly place to take the kids? Walk on over to Wetherby Park! Home to one of Iowa City’s three splash pads, the park keeps kids cool all summer long. With walking trails, playground equipment, an edible forest, and more, the park is sure to keep the whole family entertained!
