Last week the Carolina Panthers took on the Tamp Bay Buccaneers in Tamps. Quarterback Cam Newton threw for 154 yards with one touchdown and one interception according to http://www.espn.com/nfl/game?gameId=400951725 . The Panthers came away with a 17-3 win over the Bucs after suffering two losses in a row to the New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears.
This Sunday, the Panthers are taking on a conference rival, the Atlanta Falcons. The Panthers’ defense will have to lock down superstar wide receiver Julio Jones, something they failed to do last year. Last season the Panthers’ defense allowed Julio Jones 12 catches for 300 yards and one 75-yard touchdown.
“It also was embarrassing. Beyond the effort by Jones, the sixth time in NFL history that a receiver had at least 300 yards receiving in a game, Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan threw for a franchise single-game record 503 yards,” said Espn Staff Writer David Newton.
In other News, Panthers’ wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin was traded to the Buffalo Bills this week, taking away yet another target of Cam Newton’s. With Benjamin gone wide receiver Devin Funchess will replace him in the number one receiver spot.
We will look to see how this Panther’s offense can thrive without Benjamin and expert all of the tricks that offensive coordinator Mike Shula has up his sleeves. The Panthers are going to need big games from Newton on the offensive side of the ball and a strong hold in the secondary on the defensive half.
