Almost! I’ll certainly agree that the handle would have the correct curve if it is indeed a mirror image, but if that’s the case then the Little Dipper tattoo would still be missing the bottom of the ladle. Pherkad (the star) should be part of the bottom of the ladle regardless of the orientation of the image.
I think that they (either the sisters or the tattoo artist) just assumed that the Big Dipper and Little Dipper had the same overall geometry as seen from Earth.
You could have googled “little dipper” and realized that the way the tattoo looks is incorrect. Here, I made this simple diagram just for you.
In #13, am I looking at it wrong or are the dots for the Little Dipper incorrectly connected? Shouldn’t the handle connect to the top of the ladle instead of the bottom?
The handle for the Little Dipper is also curved the wrong way. I wonder if the older sister purposely messed it up as a prank, since the Big Dipper tattoo doesn’t have any of these issues…
The only reason I’m interested in this is because two of my front teeth are fake and before the dentist put the fake teeth in, he offered to whiten my real teeth for free ahead of time. Of course as a 17-year-old in high school, I said yes without realizing my real teeth wouldn’t stay that white forever. It’s since been 12 years and unfortunately, I’ve been noticing that my real teeth are becoming more yellow than my two fake teeth. Of course, most people that whiten their teeth don’t do it for this reason, but it’s something I’m pretty self-conscious about and I’d like to get fixed.
