Some people make fun of other people for using dated phrases like: “No soup for you”, “All that and a bad of chips”, or “Is that your final answer”. I don’t understand why people make fun of people for using these dated phrases. I hear people use other phrases that are even more dated all the time and no one ever says anything about those phrases: “the whole ball of wax”, “a different ball of wax”, or “ None of your beeswax” Those phrases are definitely out of date, when is the last time you dealt with balls of wax or beeswax? Or the phrase “killing two birds with one stone”, killing two birds with one stone is a saying people use when they are able solve two problems at one time with a single action. I don’t see how killing two birds with one stone is solving one problem let alone two. In Indianapolis it is against the law to throw a stone at a bird unless it is in self defense. So if I throw a stone at a bird and kill it, I am probably am looking at a second degree misdemeanor charge. If I throw a stone at a bird and it kills two birds, the police would probably increase my misdemeanor charge from the second degree to the first degree. How is getting a misdemeanor charge increased from the second degree to the first degree solving two problems with a single action. That is why I am not against people using dated sayings like “Is that your final answer” or “All that and a bag of chips”. Those phrases are dated, but at least they aren’t about balls of wax or throwing rocks at birds. Phrases about balls of wax and throwing rocks at birds are either no longer relevant to our daily lives or make absolutely no sense.
