The Abbott Government’s multi-billion dollar war on red and green tape is sending many tape manufacturers packing, according to the industry's peak body.

One former green tape manufacturer said that after being stifled by anti-green-tape red tape, he’d made the logical move into red tape, only to come unstuck when the Abbott Government declared war on red tape.

But Environment Minister Greg Hunt said the writing had been on the wall for the ‘do-gooders’ in the tape industry for months now.

“What we’re saying is that any other colour is fine, just not red or green. I’ve found that black and yellow tape works fine for keeping people out of contaminated sites.

“Would it fucking kill them to diversify a little?”

And some tape manufacturers are doing just that.

Ahead of the next Budget massacre, savvy businesses are already stocking up on cutting implements such as scalpels, axes and cleavers.

Others are moving into the rubber stamp trade, hoping to secure a lucrative contract with Mr Hunt’s new “one-stop shop” for environmental approvals.
