Response to Sinead O’Connor’s Open Letter To Miley Cyrus: “Don’t Let The Music Business Make A Prostitute Of You”:
People are making this whole Miley thing more about her sexual antics and not the racial implications of what she’s doing. She’s trying to do what every child star before her has done and that’s shed her adolescent image and grow up, and I can completely understand that. But when her idea of “being the bad girl” is “Oh I suddenly love ‘ghetto’ music and that’s what I want to make” and “I’m going to jump around with all these random rappers because that’s so shocking and people will be so wow-ed” and “Oh, look at all my twerking black dancers, see how down I am”, /that’s/ a big fucking issue. She’s literally using black culture the way Britney Spears used a sexier outfit, it’s an accessory to proclaim that she’s not a kid anymore and I don’t understand why that’s not being talked about as much as her overall trashy behavior is. Oh, the ghetto music thing is an exact quote by the way. She didn’t even use hip-hop.
