Here is a list of some of the coolest phones before the age of the iPhone. Before smartphones, our regular boring phones had to show some pizzazz in other ways. The cells before the iPhone used color, shape, size, and many different ways of a opening a screen to offer some cool, new, and unique cell phone attributes.

The Motorola V60


The Motorola V60 came out early 2002, and it was the hottest phone around. Some of it's features included voice activated dialing, two way text messaging, external caller ID, oh and you could get attach a separate accessory in order to get speaker phone.. So cool!

The T-Mobile Sidekick


The T-Mobile Sidekick came out later in 2002, and was this phone was the tits! The big keyboard was a game-changer, not having to click a button three or even four times to get a letter was amazing. And who can forget the awesome swivel screen that popped open in a swift motion. Fully equipped with Aim/AOL messenger, web browser, and the ultimate phone game "bob's journey" - this was the phone every celebrity had including Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie, Miley Cyrus, Rachel Bilson, and even Kim Kardashian. Bonus points if you had your sidekick completely bedazzled!

The Motorola RAZR


HELLO MOTO! The Motorola RAZR came out in 2003, and it was the thinest cell phone on the market. The simple sleek design along with the futuristic silver keypad and aluminum body is what drew so many people in, being so small and thin yet still reassuringly tough. It also had Bluetooth, and the dual display and front camera made the RAZR one of the first phones that offered a selfie function.

The Motorola PEBL


The Motorola PEBL came out in 2005, and was offered in several different stylish colors. The small, smooth, and rounded aesthetic was very appealing. Also it wasn't a normal flip phone in that in order to open it you would have to push the front screen down on one of the top corners and then it would pop open- definitely an interesting new way to amp up normal flip phones.

The LG enV


The LG enV came out in 2006, and once again offered the full keyboard. The LG enV came in three different colors; silver, green, and orange. The design of the LG enV was something never seen before, looking like a normal phone and then opening sideways to reveal a QWERTY key board was dope as hell!

The LG Chocolate


The LG Chocolate came out in 2006, and it was of the first of the sliding screen phones. The fancy new sliding phones kept the phones nice and compact, and when you needed to type just swipe up the screen and there was your keypad. The Chocolate was also one of the first phones that had an mp3 player on it.

The Blackberry Pearl


The Blackberry Pearl came out in 2006, and it was the first blackberry to contain a camera and an mp3 media player. The round cursor ball in the middle was also a very new and interesting attribute specific to blackberry. The Pearl also had a norma sized keypad but spread the letters out to only two letters per key, to improve the typing interface.

The LG Voyager


The LG Voyager came out in 2007, and it was the fancy new upgrade from the enV. The phone was now a lot sleeker and the front screen was a touch screen! Definitely leaps and bounds ahead of the enV.

The Samsung Upstage


The Samsung Upstage came out in 2007, and it literally had an mp3 built into it. One side of the phone was a normal cell phone and on the flip side was an mp3 player, the definition of 2 in 1!

The LG VX9400


The LG VX9400 came out in 2007, and it too had a fancy swivel sliding screen. The LG VX 9400 was one of the first phones on the market that had the ability to support mobile TV broadcasting. This phone made a cameo on the big screen, in Iron Man, earning the title as "the Iron Man phone." It also showed up in the very popular TV shows Gossip Girl and 90210.

The Samsung ALIAS


The Samsung ALIAS came out in 2009, and it was one of the first phones to rock the dual-hinge design. This allowed the phone to be opened both portrait and landscape, and therefore offered a QWERTY keyboard as well.

The Blackberry Curve


The Blackberry Curve came out in 2009, and it was the bees-knees! This was the first of the Blackberry's to introduce the new trackpad, upgrading from the track balls that were easily broken in past phones. Also Blackberry introduce BlackBerry Messenger, or BBM, which was the first internet based phone instant messenger. It allowed people to message for free between Blackberry's without waisting your limited number of text messages. BBM made the Blackberry's popularity sky-rocket, and for many people it was the last phone they held out on until everyone eventually gave in and got an iPhone.
