Home Matters To The Homeless Of NYC

The Fashion Institute of Technology's Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) raises awareness for National Movement "Home Matters", redefining the American Dream.

NEW YORK, NY -- On Thursday, February 19, 2015, the Fashion Institute of Technology’s Public Relation Student Society of America (PRSSA) Bateman 2015 Team, Homeless Of NYC, joined together to create a campaign to combat homelessness and raise awareness for the national movement Home Matters. The team consisted of four PR passionate students, Nicole Armeno, Tiffany Chao, Ilana Maurer and Jennifer Persamanos.

Their table was set up in a lobby right outside the cafeteria. Argo Tea kindly donated iced tea and they gave out sugar cookies each branded with their PR campaign logo and Home Matters. Gold coins and cut outs of houses were on the table for students, staff and faculty to make a pledge. “We were busy throughout the duration of our event. I was surprised so many people stopped to learn more about it and what they could do to help out”, says Tiffany Chao. “Our table was fun and we had games and music for people to do. Even when I got home, I got Facebook messages asking more about it.”

Home Matters is national movement that was launched in 2013 with the mission to build awareness and underline the link between home and core societal issues such as health, education, safety, individual success and the economy. The Bateman Case Study Competition gives PR students the opportunity to apply what they learn in the classroom and internship experiences to create a full public relations campaign. The FIT PRSSA Bateman Team decided to build upon the horrible homeless situation in New York City and what we as a community can do to make our home, home. Home Matters to the Homeless of NYC.
