When making an escape room there are a lot of variables to consider; making sure the room is realistic with decor, puzzles being tricky but fair, and the story behind the room is setting the right mood and purpose.
1. Escape Room Puzzles
When it comes to puzzles for our escape rooms we want to incorporate both skill and logic, so there is a variety of puzzles that everyone can try. We start off with a rough set of puzzles that we discuss about with our team, we make sure that the puzzles flow smoothly and that they are not too difficult or too easy to solve, we also like to have many different locks with one type lock each to make sure it is less confusing. Once we have our rough layout of puzzles we construct our rooms around them, then we go back to our puzzles again to see if they flow nicely with the decor.
2. Escape Room Decor
The decor of our rooms should be realistic but not over the top, we make sure that the puzzles relate to both the story and decor of the rooms to help keep it realistic and get you into the mood. The decor should most importantly leave you with a memorable moment.
3. Escape Room Story
For the story for our rooms they should give you information on why you're locked in the room and why you need to get out, it should also get you in the mood for the theme with help from the decor giving you a realistic feel.
What Makes a Great Escape Room?
So what makes a great escape room? Fun puzzles that flow nicely, good immersion making sure that the puzzles, decor and story flow smoothly together and relate to the theme. The main thing is to make sure you are having fun and enjoy a memorable moment with friends.
