Every New Year’s Eve, we’re plagued by a timeline of New Year’s Resolutions – most of which won’t ever be achieved. This December, we’re here to equip you with seven personalized New Year’s Resolutions to start you off on the right foot.

What Should Your New Year's Resolution Be?

There's a goal you want to accomplish by the end of the week. How are you getting there?

You meet someone who you don't like. What happens?

Which mode of showing love do you do the LEAST?

What would your friends say is your best trait?

A harsh (but accurate) insult for you would be...

Do you tend to be a bit judgemental? Do you figure out how you feel about people before getting to know them? If so, your resolution for 2023 should be this. Over the course of the next year, reserve your assumptions when you first meet people. Allow them time to show you who they are.

“I’m going to give everyone a chance.”

Too many of us fit the selfish spender archetype – we love splurging on ourselves, but seldom do anything for others. It’s not that we _mean_ not to… we just don’t. If this sounds like you, this ought to be your resolution. Whether you pick one charity at the beginning of the year, or want to do a new one monthly, this is super easy and can cost as much (or as little) as you want. Mark your calendar monthly, and whether it’s $5 or $500, shell something out to a good cause. Karma will thank you.

“I’m going to donate to a cause every month.”

Listen, you don’t _mean_ not to check in on other people – you just might be a bit wrapped up in your own life. This isn’t done maliciously. If you find yourself only talking about you, here’s a great resolution. Again, this is super easy. When you’re leaving class with a friend, when you come home to your family or roommate, or even when you’re texting your significant other in the afternoon – all this takes is 2 seconds of typing. You can do it!

“I’m going to ask someone how their day was every day.”

Some people struggle with being emotional, and that’s totally okay (for the most part). If you don’t like to cry – that’s fine. We’re not going to make you! However, a great step in opening up is telling other people when you appreciate them. Thus, our suggestion for you. Again, whether this is directed towards a partner, a family member, or a friend – a little bit goes a long way. Try it out!

“I’m going to tell someone I love them every day.”

Listen, we know as well as anyone how the seasonal slump can get you down. As winter approaches, it can be easy to fall into a pattern of feeling unmotivated. But don’t worry, we have an easy resolution to keep the slothish demons at bay. This is the perfect way to start your day off on a productive note – and even if you don’t do anything else the entire day, you can at least say you did this!

“I’m going to make my bed every morning.”

When we’re obsessed with whatever project or task is on our minds, it can become extremely difficult to find (or even create) time for ourselves. If this sounds like you… worry no longer, busybody! Here’s a resolution. Not only is this very easy to schedule in, but it can be as long or as short as you’d like. What matters is that you’re getting outside in sunlight, in fresh air, in nature – to be alone with yourself and focus on you. This practice can be highly transformative.

“I’m going to take a walk by myself once a week.”

Do you have big dreams, but no agenda to accomplish them? Do you spend tons of time thinking about the future, but very little actually planning for them? If that’s the case, here’s a resolution for you. That’s right – time to pull out Google Sheets or Excel and get cracking. Jot down some deadlines to accomplish things by (i.e., make a resume by February 1st, apply for at least 5 jobs by April 10th, so on and so forth). You’ll thank yourself.

“I’m going to make a plan to pursue my dreams.”
