It was basically just a crime procedural, but boy, was Simon Baker a dreamy former psychic and highly observant consultant. 5. The Secret Life of the American Teenager ABC Family Before Divergent and Big Little Lies, Shailene Woodley was teen mom Amy Juergens. Secret Life was one of the biggest teen shows as soon as it premiered in 2008, and it always served drama. 6. Desperate Housewives ABC The mysteries on Desperate Housewives were really heating up in 2009 when the fifth season suddenly jumped five years ahead, forcing viewers to piece together what had happened in in the meantime. 7. House Fox This show gave us the doctor version of Sherlock Holmes we never knew we needed, and in 2009, it gave us some seriously emotional plotlines involving suicide, addiction, and assassination. 8. Glee Fox Glee premiered in 2009 and was practically an instant hit with their cover of "Don't Stop Believin’,” which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. 9. ER NBC The epic medical drama had its two-hour finale in 2009 after 15 years on TV. 10. Mad Men AMC Mad Men won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama every year from 2008 to 2011, so it's safe to say everyone was pretty obsessed. 11. Jersey Shore MTV Okay, I'm cheating because Jersey Shore didn't premiere until December of 2009, but let's be honest, it didn't even need a full month to become a cultural phenomenon.
