⚠️ WARNING: A minor spoiler for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker ahead! ⚠️
I should probably preface this post by saying I know very little about Star Wars besides the fact that Baby Yoda is cute as heck.
However, I do know John Boyega (HOT) and Oscar Isaac (also very HOT), who star as Finn and Poe in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Recently, Oscar spoke about his immediate connection with John at their first audition, and shared why he hoped their real-life chemistry would translate into an on-screen romance in the films:
"I mean, there was an absolute natural chemistry with him. I immediately felt very connected to him," Oscar told Variety.
He continued, saying, "I remember it was an audition and the two of us just, like, did that first scene back to back, butt to butt, you know, just doing the scene together, practicing it in this room."
"And I think the fact that neither of us shied away from that while we were shooting as well. I think it was just like, these are two guys that are happy being intimate with each other emotionally," he recalled.
"Personally, I kind of hoped and wished that maybe that would have been taken further in the other films, but I don’t have control over that," Oscar confessed.
Director J.J. Abrams attempted to address the lack of LGBTQ representation in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. The film features the franchise’s first on-screen kiss between a same-sex couple, but many have called out the brevity of the scene:
Earlier this month, Oscar echoed his sentiments, telling Variety that the "ambiguity" of Finn and Poe's relationship might allow more people to see themselves in the characters. Nevertheless, he stated, "If they would’ve been boyfriends, that would have been fun.”
And JIC you're wondering, John Boyega was also down to explore Finn and Poe's underlying romance. “They’ve always had a quite loving and open relationship in which it wouldn’t be too weird if it went beyond it,” he told Variety.
If there's any good left in this world, Hollywood will cast Oscar and John in another feature where they can finally get to play lovers 🤞🏾.
An earlier version of this post misstated the publication that Oscar spoke to.
