Kristen Bell has never been shy about opening up about her personal life, whether it's her parenting philosophy, her relationship with husband Dax Shepard, or her anxiety and depression.
Her recent video she recorded for the Child Mind Institute's #MyYoungerSelf campaign is even more proof of that. In it, she shares the advice she'd give her younger self about her mental health.
Bell, who has lived with anxiety and depression since she was 18, started by reminding everyone that things are never as perfect as they look on Instagram or TV or in magazines.
"Everyone's human. Everyone has problems. Everyone feels yucky on the inside sometimes," she said.
Bell called on everyone to remember to take care of themselves "from the inside out, because that's how you can feel truly beautiful."
Another big point she made? That having a mental illness like anxiety or depression isn't something to be ashamed or embarrassed about.
"There are people out there to help, and we're all just human," she said. "And you can do it."
Thank you for always making people feel less alone, Kristen!
And if you find Bell's experience relatable, you might want to look into ways to take care of yourself too. So, here are some quick resources, just in case:
• You can learn more about starting therapy, since pretty much everyone can benefit from talking to a professional.
• You can learn more about anxiety from the resources at the National Institute of Mental Health.
