Starting kindergarten can be an overwhelming time, both for kids and parents — but kindergarten teachers know that there are a lot of things that can help prepare parents and kiddos for what's ahead.

For example, they don't have to spend the summer teaching their child how to read, as long as they know a few sight words.

These are words that are used frequently and are often difficult to sound out, like "she", "my", and "been".

Also, accidents definitely happen, but it's probably a good idea to take kids on a school bathroom test run (if they can) before the school year starts to make them feel more comfortable.

And if something does happen, packing a change of clothes in your child's backpack will help soften the blow.

Oh, and if they're worried about any separation anxiety, try progressively backing off and letting them be more independent or planning more playdates.
