This Hair Dryer Is The Closest You'll Get To A Salon-Level Blowout While Traveling

The PowerDiva has been a lifesaver for my hair, and I'm never leaving home without it.

We hope you love the products we recommend! Just so you know, BuzzFeed may collect a share of sales from the links on this page. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication.

I'm a frequent traveler, and I always try to pack as light as possible — which usually means not bringing whatever I can find at a hotel. Most of the time that includes a hair dryer, but about two months ago, I discovered the Bio Ionic PowerDiva Pro Style Travel Size Dryer.

The PowerDiva has been a lifesaver for my hair, and I'm never leaving home without it.

What makes this hair dryer ideal for traveling is that it doesn’t take up a ton of space in your suitcase, and it weighs less than 2 pounds. But it's not one of those cheapo travel hair dryers that take forever to get the job done or leave your hair looking frizzy and fried. Let's get into it, shall we?

First off, the PowerDiva works by using natural volcanic rock mineral infused into the dryer barrel — and while, presumably like most of you, I had no idea WTF this actually meant or why it was a good thing, I learned that it basically functions to hydrate your hair from the inside out. There’s literally a science to it: The dryer emits negative ions into your hair, meaning that instead of drying your hair like a normal blow-dryer, it does so by driving water molecules into your hair, which helps to prevent heat damage. Translation: good-bye, dry, burnt hair and hello, super-smooth and shiny strands! What also helped seal the deal for me was the fact that I have a ridiculously annoying cowlick that never wants to stay down — and whether I straighten my hair or curl it, it inevitably finds its way back to cowlick town in no time at all. After using the PowerDiva to just blow my hair back and then forward, and I don’t have to look at that cowlick until the next time I wash my hair! It's legit that powerful.

It's 1800 watts and has three heat settings, plus a cool-blast option. It also comes with two nozzles to direct air flow, which helps to style your hair and make it smoother and more manageable.

At $150, I realize it's not cheap — but you absolutely get what you pay for. It's actually helped me to almost achieve a blowout comparable to one I'd get at the salon, which is pretty hard on its own for someone like me with fine hair — albeit a lot of it — let alone in a dingy hostel or hotel room where the bathroom doesn’t have any lights. (Some of my latest accommodations have been a bit bleak, okay?)I do have to say that it was a little confusing figuring out how to actually turn on the hair dryer the first time I used it. But lo and behold, I found a sticker on the barrel that explained the whole thing. You basically just have to hold down the on/off button for a few seconds. If you want to turn the heat up, just turn the little clicker/knob-type thing on the side. If you press the on/off button once it will change it to a cooler temp. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy breezy.

TL;DR: This is pretty much the greatest hair dryer I have ever used, and if I haven’t convinced you yet, perhaps these promising reviews will?

"Oh my goodness! This is the PERFECT travel dryer!! It's so light, compact, and cute. And it dries my hair soooo fast!! One of my favorite purchases...EVER!" —lmlaw"The ionic technology keeps the hair smoother and drying time is quicker while being less damaging. It's about the weight of a water bottle, which is nice when you have thick hair. The attachments really do help smooth and straighten the hair. The on/off/cool button is a little confusing since it's all the same button, just pushing it over and over till it's right (probably some user error there but the directions didn't say anything about it). Powerful flow for how small it is. Really happy I got this one." —Shellie Lynn Ramsey"Game-changer! This PowerDiva Pro Style is here to slay the game! Dries your hair in more than half the time; it's light, and my hair has less damage with the most silkiest finish. I can't remember what life was like before it!" —KingRC
