21 Movies That Were So Bad, People Couldn't Even Finish Them

Hopefully they got a refund.

We recently asked members of the BuzzFeed Community to tell us what movie was so bad, it made them walk out of the theater. Here are some of our favorite responses:

1. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)

It was a total letdown for me. Don't get me wrong, I love Eddie Redmayne, but I struggled to sit through the first 30 minutes and ended up leaving. I think I was expecting Harry Potter standards, and it just didn't live up to those movies.

2. Sex and the City 2 (2010)

The TV show was flawed (Carrie Bradshaw has to be one of the most annoying characters ever created), but it was always kind of a guilty pleasure for me. The movies brought out the worst in the show and left out the best. The whole thing was super cringey and I didn’t laugh once, so I left halfway through.

3. Borat (2006)

At one point in the movie, a man chases a heavier elderly man around with a fist-shaped dildo. It was then that my friend and I realized that not only did we not care about losing the money we'd spent to get in, but we'd actually pay money to be let out.

4. The Fifth Wave (2016)

I normally like young-adult sci-fi, but this was just so bad. I left after about 45 minutes to use the bathroom and just couldn't be bothered to go back in. I even left my umbrella in the cinema and had absolutely no desire to go back and get it.

5. Aquaman (2018)

I was slumped over in the seat because it just kept getting worse. I told my parents we had to leave because it was just too cheesy to handle.

6. Interstellar (2014)

I’m not dumb, but I just got totally lost with the science involved in understanding the plot! I think you need a PhD in physics to understand it.

7. Slender Man (2018)

My friend and I are huge horror movie fans. We even love the goofy/campy horror movies. This movie was not goofy, campy, scary, or redeemable in any way. It was, however, boring, cringey, and a complete waste of time.

8. The Last Airbender (2010)

My friend was really into the animated series, and she had me watch the first season before we went to see the midnight showing of the movie. It was cringeworthy and annoying from the first minute. They turned a show with depth and humor into a horrible drama filled with over-the-top acting. We finally left after someone threw popcorn at the screen when the Katara character pronounced Aang's name wrong for the millionth time.

9. Tag (2018)

I got all excited to see it because the cast looked amazing. Then I got in and realized quickly that a movie about grown-ass men playing tag was gonna be boring. I couldn't care less if it was based on a true story or not — it was still boring.

10. Justice League (2017)

My hopes were so high because I loved Wonder Woman, but the movie had no plot. The writing and dialogue were terrible, the effects weren't that great, and Henry Cavill's CGI face was so bad.

11. Sausage Party (2016)

The only movie I’ve ever left was Sausage Party. I was expecting it to be crass, but holy hell, it was nothing but gross jokes that weren't funny or clever.

12. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark (2019)

I'm a huge fan of Guillermo del Toro, but unfortunately this movie massively missed the mark for me! The acting was cringeworthy, and it was just generally boring overall. I was falling asleep and everyone in the cinema was on their phones. An hour in, my friend and I took one look at each other and got the hell out of there.

13. Jack and Jill (2011)

I left that Adam Sandler movie where he plays twins. I don't think I lasted even 20 minutes. It was so cringey! That's the only movie I've ever left early, and I've sat through some pretty terrible movies hoping to get my money's worth.

I think I would’ve liked it more — or at least enough to stay in the theater — if they had cast actors who could sing and dance better. They went purely for big names and star power, and I found it insufferable.

15. Jeepers Creepers (2001)

This was an absolutely horrible movie! The best part was when the fire alarm went off in the theater and we got to leave. And no, we didn't go back in to watch the rest.

16. Girl on the Train (2016)

I loved the book and was so excited to see the movie, but that script was such a hot mess. They changed things for literally no reason. For example, the film was set in New York instead of London....like, really? Do we have to Americanize EVERYTHING? I got up and left after about 45 minutes.

17. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019)

The new movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was SO awful I couldn’t make it through the whole thing. It was incredibly boring and didn't even have a cohesive storyline.

18. Welcome to Marwen (2018)

The trailers made it look mildly interesting, so I went to see it because a friend wanted to. That friend is no longer allowed to make movie suggestions.

I love the Rock and and Jason Statham, but I found the movie cringey, unoriginal, and dopey. I decided I had better things to do that day and left the theater.

20. The Hills Have Eyes (2006)

I’m a general movie nerd, so if I start a movie, I'm going to finish it whether I’m into it or not. Also, I love horror flicks, and I'm not squeamish. However, 20 minutes into this remake I had to just get up and walk out. It turned my stomach and felt more like a smut film than a horror movie.

The plot was uninteresting and it was oversaturated with drugs, guns, and sex. Overall, it was just stupid.
