Over 65,000 People Have Signed A Petition To Remove Kanye West From Glastonbury

Even though the petition was known to be fake.

Earlier this week, someone started a petition asking Gastonbury to cancel Kanye West's headlining performance shortly after the news was announced.

But it was later revealed that the creator of the petition intended it to be a joke.

"I was a little surprised that people have taken it as seriously as they have," the 31 year-old creator Neil Lonsdale told BuzzFeed UK. "I am fully aware that there is plenty of other stuff to keep me amused. Kanye is not to my liking, but then, I’m only one person."

At the time, about 9,000 people signed it.

In another interview this week, the petition's creator also earnestly said that Kanye doesn't "represent" the Glastonbury Festival.

Even though Lonsdale created a "fake" petition, his anti-Kanye sentiments are very real. "Glastonbury needs upbeat major artists," he said in the interview. "Glastonbury is an institution. It is expected that it has the biggest names. The biggest performers. Kanye does not represent that."

Lonsdale briefly mentioned that Fleetwood Mac could have been a better option in lieu of the rapper. "There is so much to see that I'll have a great time regardless of whether Kanye headlines but I'm sure we could have got Fleetwood Mac for the same price [as West]."
