The New Canada Twitter Account Is Endearingly Bad At Twitter

Their own countrymen troll them.

Posted on

On Wednesday, @Canada announced their arrival by issuing this first attempt at a cheeky tweet (that also came with a banner).

.@Canada's now on Twitter, eh!

Fellow Canadians were like:

@Canada The best you could come up with?

Seriously @Canada? That's your first tweet? SERIOUSLY?

While the rest of world instantly trolled.

(Kinda like real life, tbqh.)

The Canadian government then took their first crack at a subtweet.

...which had their countrymen meeting their faces to palms.

@Canada Are you real? How is this real. How did you get a blue check mark when you are not real.

One American (who full disclosure, used to work at BuzzFeed) super-trolled the account with this tweet, which got nearly 400 RTs:

won’t stop until this is @canada’s new profile pic

And @Canada actually responded, cringingly unclear if they were even aware they were being trolled.

Maybe. Let’s see if @rcmpgrcpolice agree cc @TheSimpsons MT @erikmal: won’t stop until this is @Canada’s profile pic

Like if your dad joined Twitter, while the national account is slightly humiliating, the intent is adorably admirable.
