A Cat Bit Her Owner In Her Sleep To Save Her Family From A House Fire

The cat actually saved the life of the family's other cat, too, the local fire department told BuzzFeed News.

Early Thursday morning, firefighters responded to a call of a house fire in Clairmont, Alberta. The family's cat was the one who first noticed and alerted the family of the fire.

At around 3:30 a.m., the family's cat crept into the parents' bedrooms and woke the mother up by biting her on the arm, the County of Grande Prairie Fire Department confirmed to BuzzFeed News.

The cat was apparently trying to notify her of a fire in the house that was erupting overnight.

The parents and two children at the residence were sleeping, but the entire family was woken up in time to call for help and flee the house.

Trevor Grant, the chief of the department, told BuzzFeed News they were also able to rescue a second cat in the house when they arrived on the scene.

“[The family] was pretty happy with their cat. The cat woke them up with enough time,” Grant added.

"If they hadn’t been notified, it could have definitely been a different result."

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, and there are no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire is still being investigated, he said.

In the meantime, the Clairmont family — and their hero cat — are currently staying at another residence.
