Dear "The Bachelorette", Please Give Us The Proper Love Story Again

Why are we missing the most important connection?

Posted on

Last night over a million Australians tuned in to watch Georgia Love pick Lee Elliot in The Bachelorette.

Network 10

However, their love story was overshadowed by the fact that runner-up Matty J basically had his heart ripped out, and stomped on.

WHAT?!?!?!?! Matty got out first?? CHANNEL TEN YOU'VE FUCKED ME UP AGAIN #BACHELORETTEAU

From the middle of the season, the show manipulated audiences, focusing heavily on Matty J's love story with Georgia, while Lee's lurked in the shadows.

Network 10

Matty J told BuzzFeed even his mum thought he was lying to her when he told her he didn't win.

Matty and Georgia first connected after some one-on-one time after a group date, which led to their croquet date, and then the boat date where sparks really flew.

Network 10

Meanwhile we had seen one brief solo beach date with Lee, and basically didn't see him and Georgia interacting until their second date weeks on.

Network 10

It wasn't surprising to see Matty J declare his love for Georgia in the second last episode, considering how the show had built up their story so far.

But when Lee dropped the L-bomb last night, and viewers saw Georgia's face transform, many were left wondering when the two actually DID fall in love.

Network 10

Having said that, Lee and Georgia do seem incredibly happy: but why the fuck was their actual love story edited out?!

We basically know nothing about it! Lee's home visit was the shortest one of the lot!

Even Lee was disappointed, telling Sydney Morning Herald that due to the editing he initially found the show hard to watch.

Network 10

"They really downplayed me," Lee said in the interview.

A similar thing happened on The Bachelor this year. Everyone thought Nikki Gogan had it in the bag, with actual winner Alex Nation getting a worse edit.

Network 10

"We would really have liked to have more of our love story shown, so people could have gotten behind us a lot more instead of going that other angle," Bachelor Richie Strahan told PopSugar.

So why the dramatic edits to manipulate audiences?

Network 10

When Sam Frost chose Sasha Mielczarek in the 2015 finale, people couldn't be happier. Ditto when 2015 Bachelor Sam Wood chose Snezana Markoski. Throughout both seasons, the two winners were obvious choices and people were stoked for them, because as an audience we followed their love story from the get-go.

The sudden change of hyping up the runner-up and giving them a deeper love story, has left a bitter taste in viewers mouths. Many people tweeted last night that they were "done" with the show.

OH FOR FUCKS SAKE I AM DONE WITH THESE DAMN SHOWS NEVER AGAIN #BacheloretteAU

Somebody at Channel 10 has had a rough year of love, and they've taken it out on #TheBachelorAU & #BacheloretteAU edit. Clearly.

IM SO ANGRY IM SUEING #bacheloretteAU

With the announcement of The Bachelorette Season 3 hitting screens in 2017, and casting already underway for The Bachelor, we really only have one request. Channel 10, please give us the proper love story again.

Hey #BacheloretteAU producers: seeing the culmination of a relationship you're invested in >>> a surprise pick

PLEASE. It makes for way better viewing than petty rivalries, scripted drama, and hyping up the runner-up instead of the actual winner.
