The Definitive Ranking Of "Skins" Romances

So much tortured young love.

Posted on

24. Luke and Franky (season six).

E4

These two had enough issues to deal with on their own - together they were a complete and utter trainwreck.

23. Nick and Liv (season five).

Cheating on your girlfriend with her best friend is never cool. Ever.

22. Cook and Pandora (season three).

This was by far the most WTF affair in Skins history. That's all there really is to say.

21. Nick and Mini (season five).

They may have started as the most popular kids in the year, but that didn't necessarily mean they made a great couple. Mini felt pressured to lose her virginity to Nick while he was busy making eyes at her best friend Liv.

20. Anwar and Anka (season one).

This short lived fling gave Anwar a chance to engage in a romantic relationship (and lose his virginity), but it wasn't an overly captivating romance.

19. Anwar and Sketch (season two).

E4

Honestly, it just feels like the writers never tried with Anwar and his romances. Pairing him with the crazy girl who had a massive crush on Maxxie? It's a little insulting really.

18. Nick and Franky (season six).

E4

Nick falls hopelessly in love with Franky and the two have sex, but Franky seems to be using him as a distraction to deal with the fallout of Grace's death - because that's just a classic Franky move really.

17. Freddie and Katie (season three).

It was rather obvious that Katie was a nice distraction for Freddie to attempt to get over Effy. We all knew it was never going to last.

16. Matty and Liv (season five).

Liv goes from one brother to the other and tries to ignore Matty's strong connection with Franky. But as much as poor Liv tries to hold onto the romance, Matty just didn't seem to be all that into it - and ends up cheating on her with Franky.

15. Sid and Michelle (season two).

Sid and Michelle basically use each other to get over Tony and Cassie respectively, so you know, it was never going to work.

14. JJ and Lara (season four).

Sweet, lovable JJ finally has his chance of love with Lara, a single mother in season four. While their relationship has it's ups and downs, it seems to hold steady. But does anyone really care all that much?

13. Thomas and Pandora (season three - four).

Thomas and Pandora had their ups and downs, and did seem destined to be together. But they were also incredibly boring.

12. Cook and Naomi (season three - four).

OK, so Cook and Naomi only hooked up once or twice. But what followed was a strange but endearing friendship, that saw the two help each other out during life's rough moments.

11. Chris and Angie (season one).

A teacher-student relationship is never going to work out, but these two were a bit of fun to watch for a while. Even if viewers did ponder that Chris was chasing an older woman because of his major abandonment issues, which kind of ruined the fun, flirty vibe.

10. Mini and Alo (season six).

E4

They were an unlikely couple, with unlikely circumstances bringing them together. Once Mini put her snobbiness behind her, and Alo stopped being so immature, they wrapped the series up nicely with Mini giving birth to their healthy baby girl.

9. Maxxie and James (season two).

Regardless of Sketch's crazy attempts to keep these two apart, the season ends with the cute couple jumping on board a bus to London and hopefully living happily ever after.

8. Matty and Franky (season five - six).

E4

Matty and Franky were probably the most intriguing (though frustrating) relationship throughout season five and six. They connected strongly at the start, and eventually after many stolen glances and elusive interactions get together. It was fleeting though and the two share a tempestuous relationship dealing with the aftermath of Grace's death. Franky toys with both Nick and Matty's emotions, though it becomes obvious she's in love with Matty - even though she chooses to end up with neither of them.

7. Effy and Cook (season three).

E4

Effy and Cook had major chemistry. Deep down it's obvious they both cared for each other on some level - but were as equally bad to each other.

6. Tony and Michelle (season one - two).

There's no reason to sugarcoat it - Tony and Michelle were two of the most selfish people on the planet. So they basically deserved each other. Regardless, for some reason you still wanted them to work it out in the end.

5. Effy and Freddie (season three - four).

Oh Freffy. The tortured love story of these two still brings a tear to the eye. In some ways they were so so perfect for each other - who can forget their first kiss in the lake? In other ways they were just too damn problematic. Then after doing everything he can to help Effy, Freddie is the one to get killed off? So not fair.

4. Sid and Cassie (season one - two).

Sid and Cassie, though an odd couple, truly did love each other - even if they sucked at communicating. Season two ends with Sid trying to chase down Cassie in New York and you desperately hoped they'd end up happily ever after. Shout-out to season seven for ruining that dream.

3. Naomi and Emily (season three, four and seven).

Dramatic barely begins to cover the tumultuous relationship Naomily had. But they were a huge fan favourite, and somehow always managed to work it out in the end, amidst a lot of tears. Then of course, season seven once again came along to ruin everything.

2. Chris and Jal (season two).

Chris and Jal went from good friends to lovers and really seemed genuinely happy together. Until Chris fucks it up by sleeping with Angie again. Eventually Chris and Jal get back together (even though she is harbouring the secret of being pregnant with his child), only for Chris to die from a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Because there's no such thing as happy endings in the world of Skins.

1. Rich and Grace (season five - six).

Rich and Grace were perfection. They may adhere to the old cliché of "opposites attract" but they were the one couple on the show who truly adored each other while also appearing to be one of the few Skins couples to never cheat on each other. So of course the writers then had to kill off Grace, and ruin one of the most perfect couples ever. Still not over it.
