Former Weezer Bassist Mikey Welsh Found Dead
The body of former Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh was discovered in his room at the Raffaello Hotel in Chicago on Saturday. Police say the 40-year-old was expected to check out around 1 p.m. yesterday, but it was around that time maid service found him unconscious and not breathing. An autopsy report is expected to be released by the Cook County Examiner's Office later today.
President Clinton's Joint Chiefs Chairman Dies
Retired Army General John Shalikashvili died of complications from a stroke at a medical hospital in Washington state on Saturday. He served under President Bill Clinton as the first foreign-born Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and was Clinton's head military advisor during the U.S. involvement in the Bosnian War. The former general immigrated to the United States from Poland at age 16 and was 75 when he died. (via CNN and National Journal.)
Betty Ford Has Died
Former First Lady Betty Ford, wife of President Gerald Ford, has passed away at the age of 93. Ford was a courageous survivor of both alcohol addiction and breast cancer who went on to champion such issues as the Equal Rights Amendment. She famously founded The Betty Ford Center, a world-renowned treatment clinic for substance abuse. She had been ailing in recent years, but no official cause of death has been released.
