Filipino Pro-Choice Activist Protests During Mass
After the Philippine Catholic bishops threatened to lead a civil disobedience campaign if the controversial pro-contraception bill becomes law, Carlos Celdran (a celebrity tour guide and pro-choice advocate) disrupted mass at the Manila Cathedral on Thursday, September 30, as he held up a sign bearing the word "Damaso"--referring to the villainous Spanish friar in Jose Rizal's novel "Noli Me Tangere." He also shouted to Manila's archbishop, saying that they should stop meddling in politics. He was arrested and currently in jail for "offending religious feelings." I call it a dose of their own medicine.
