1. Stonehenge: "Just a pile of stones."

Flickr: spacial

"I went with some American friends who were not impressed too. £5 would have been too much to see what is just a pile of stones, that you cannot even go near. Gullible tourists are taken in by this waste of time."

2. Big Ben: "The whole experience left me unsettled."

Flickr: isola81

"absolutely terrible I would never ever go again im glad they blew it up in v for vendetta, its just a big clock and the whole experience left me unsettled."

3. Loch Ness: "Nothing special here, just a regular lake."

tripadvisor.co.uk / Flickr: duncan_mcneil

"Nothing special here, just a regular lake like so many others with incredibly expensive tour to hear stories about Nessie... Really not worth the trip or the money!"

4. Cllifton Suspension Bridge: "you only really stand on it".

Flickr: v4idas

"it was free but not very exciting at all you only really stand on it but the scene was amazing. do not go to bristal just to see it"

6. Albert Docks: "Fine if you like that sort of thing, but I don't."

Flickr: bevgoodwin

"Do not park your car there, fees are extortionate. Some nice shops - twee boutique-type. Fine if you like that sort of thing, but I don't."

8. Tower Bridge: "Maybe it's because I am female but I found the whole experience totally boring."

tripadvisor.co.uk / Flickr: ruben9

"Maybe its because I am female but I found the whole experience totally boring. You cant take a decent photo because of all the obstructions e.g. the iron zig zags of the bridge on the outside. The glass walkway is very short on both sides of the bridge, it runs about a fifth of the entire floor, once you have looked down once, that is about it. Very poor films showing how the bridge was constructed and boring photos of other bridges around the world. Dont bother. There are better views of London, like from a riverboat or on the London Eye. We couldnt find a lift to come down, there are not enough staff to find and ask where the lift is, we had to walk halfway down then wait ages when we eventually found the lift. Bad organisation, staff just dont seem bothered at all."

9. Great Orme: "The crazy golf is in incredibly poor condition."

tripadvisor.co.uk / Flickr: perki496

"Can't express how dull this place is. Great if your a young child and seemingly the more mature visitors seemed to enjoy it. The cafe at the top sells over priced cheap food. The crazy golf is in incredibly poor condition. Many seem to like it but I would say avoid if your aged 13-60."

10. Hampton Court Palace: "You can borrow a stupid CLOAK if you want – NO THANKS! This is UNFAIR!"

tripadvisor.co.uk / Flickr: more_pi-dah

"Having invested in a Tudor Gown and French Hood - costing a small fortune, I was excited at the prospect of being about to wear it at Hampton Court for personal photos etc!

"WASTE OF TIME! Only KIDS are allowed to wear costume! (And they get welcomes with open arms!)

"I love getting into the spirit of historical venues and have my photo taken in costume. You can borrow a stupid CLOAK if you want - NO THANKS! This is UNFAIR!"

11. Edinburgh Castle: "This looks like a castle but is actually just a really fancy war museum."

tripadvisor.co.uk / Flickr: paullew

"This looks like a castle but is actually just a really fancy war museum. Was very disappointed and it was expensive."

12. Westminster Abbey: "May just be me but I find walking around people's final resting place as too morbid."

Flickr: hjjanisch

"First up dont expect a church/cathedral on the inside - the Abbey is purely a tomb. May be just me but I find walking around people's final resting place as too morbid and not particularly interesting."

13. Giant's Causeway: "How interesting can a pile of stones be...the answer is not very."

Flickr: giuseppemilo

"How interesting can a pile of stone be...the answer is not very. For the first 5 minutes its mildly diverting. Then you realise ...what...is this it?...yes is the answer. Vastly overpriced and overrated. Save yourself a trip. Visit your local builders yard and take a quick look at the nearest stack of blocks-job done."

14. Shakespeare's Globe Theatre: "Even with a cushion, the seat I had was far too narrow and uncomfortable to find any peace."

Flickr: emptyjames

"even with a cushion, the seat i had was far too narrow and uncomfortable to be able to find any peace. i left at intermission and won't be going back."

15. The Angel of the North: "A rusty metal crucifix."

Flickr: carmen_seaby

"When approaching Gateshead on the M1 you are greeted by what looks like a rusty metal crucifix. Fortunately the 'Angel of the North' is on a motorway with a national speed limit so you do not have to spend long here."

16. St Paul's Cathedral: "Too much filthy traffic around."

Flickr: lukeroberts

"There is nowhere that you can see the place properly from the outside. Too many filthy buildings arround it and too much filthy traffic arround also. Not a great place outside. The building itself is one of Londons real highlights though. For me the inside is of no interest."
