I call it the Sailor Pluto.
That I hyperventilate or have an panic attack every time I’m anxious. Those are extremely rare for me, and usually means things are out of control. Usually, when my anxiety happens, I get quiet. I don’t want to talk to anyone because I have this feeling that things are about to go horribly wrong and I have no idea what is going to cause it, and I need to figure it out or else my whole life will be ruined.
And yes, I know that probably won’t actually happen, but that’s what it feels like right now.
Also, what helped me to move past it the last time might not work again this time. So please don’t get offended if I don’t want to do your suggestion, just listen to me as i figure out what I need to do and don’t touch me unless I ask for it or say it’s specifically ok while I’m like this. And don’t point out and make a big deal if I start crying from it. I know I’m crying and I hate it. If you try to comfort me, i will break into sobs, give me a few minutes to myself to get myself together. I know it’s a dumb reason to be crying, but I can’t control it right now and drawing attention to it just makes it worse.
Response to How Do You Deal With Your Migraines?:
Lots of water, a dark room, and I know lots of people are sensitive to sound, but I need some sort of music or something for me to focus on. Living in a shared house in a city means I can never get silence so classical music or a movie I’ve seen so many times it doesn’t matter gives me something to drown out the noises that would make the migraine worse. If I’m out and can’t get home for a while, I always carry a pair of sunglasses with me to help minimize the light I’ll be exposed to when it starts.
Response to What Book Should All Twentysomethings Read?:
The Power of Asking by Amanda Palmer. Sometimes it feels like you are suppose to do everything yourself, especially in your 20’s, asking for help can be hard. You are suppose to be this independent adult, but you barely know what only are doing, let alone how to get what you want. The Power of Asking helped me realize that not only not only is asking helpful, but sometimes people want to help, and often times asking the people closest to you is the hardest thing of all.
Response to What Motivates You To Keep Working Out?:
I changed gyms to one that was on my walk from work to home. I did it after I realized that even though the gym I was going to was nicer, I wasn’t using it because it was too far out of the way and getting too crowded. The one I go to now isn’t as nice, but I actually use it and no matter how tired I am from work, because it’s on my path, I have no excuse to not go.
Yesterday I had a smoothie with spinach, half a banana, blueberries, a little honey and bitters (and I kinda think I could do without the honey next time). And then i made two soft boiled eggs to have some protein too. Sometimes, I have a rice cake with peanut butter and jelly, or different kinds of smoothies. If I am able to get a workout in the morning and have planned well enough I will make some overnight oats to grab once I get home. No matter what, I try to make sure there is protein and good carbs. Ideally it’s a little sweet, but sometimes I use ginger or bitters in smoothies to get a different flavor.
Seoul. I lived a worked there as a teacher for 4 years and met some of the best people and had adventures most every weekend. All while not feeling too broke and being able to put a little bit aside before returning home.
Thinking that you know what you want to do and then suddenly around 24-26 finding out you are completely wrong and need to start over. I moved to a city where I don’t really know anyone and can barely get by so I can’t really go out and meet people and make new friends or date. Meanwhile, you watch your friends have their careers, get married, start families, and have these amazing lives that you worry you will never have.
