22 Times 'The Fate Of The Furious' Trailer Left Me Shook

You don't turn your back on family, Dom!

Posted on

A new trailer for The Fate of the Furious (also known as #F8) just dropped and it has me feeling some type of way.

Original Film

If you've been hiding under a rock and don't already know how game-changing the next Fast and the Furious movie is going to be, here's a quick synopsis:

A mysterious cyber terrorist named Cipher (Charlize Theron) seduces Dom (Vin Diesel) into a world of crime and somehow convinces him (probably through blackmail, though that is still unclear) to turn on his family. Yes, even Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). With a betrayal this big, the crew face trials that will test them as never before.

Seeing as how there's nothing more important than family to Dom, this twist is huge. And honestly, I can't even fathom watching Dom destroy his family for an entire movie. I could barely get through the trailer without having a violent, emotional reaction. I am not ready for this. (I am totally ready for this.)

1. Some notable faces are missing.

The family looks a little smaller than usual. With his emotional send-off in Furious 7, Brian (Paul Walker) has officially retired from the game with his wife Mia (Jordana Brewster).

Excuse me, I need a second.

7. You wanted car crashes? They're giving you car crashes.

Apparently the "very definition of high-tech terrorism" can take control of literally every car in NYC and drive them all from the safety of her keyboard.

8. Tej (Chris "Ludacris" Bridges) is all of us watching a Fast and Furious movie.

I've definitely said this exact thing out loud in a packed movie theater at some point during every single other Fast and Furious film. #noregrets

9. Seriously, who is Cipher?!

"London, Abu Dhabi, Cuba ... our paths have crossed before, Dom," Cipher says. "You just didn't know it."

The montage from previous films makes me nervous. Just how much does Cipher know about Dom's past? How much has she been controlling it?

10. Blackmail? Maybe?

Like I said, there's no way that Dom would betray his family like this if he wasn't being blackmailed. Cipher holding up the cross necklace that he and Letty use as their wedding rings to "remind him why" he "chose" to do this is a pretty big clue that he isn't all of a sudden evil now. She's probably threatening to kill Letty if Dom doesn't comply.

At least, that's what I'm hoping. That way, Dom is still the hero we know and love and there's still a chance for him to get a happy ending with Letty. *crosses fingers*

12. The return of Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham).

Furious 7's villain is back and this time ... he's one of the good guys?! Sure, I can go with it, as long as he keeps up with these amazing jabs at Hobbs: "You know, I think that tight t-shirt's cutting off the circulation to your brain. You should get a bigger size."

The Fate of the Furious hits theaters April 14.
