I have limited tolerance for ignorance, especially when there are too many religions in this country for us to be basing laws off of religious tenets.

Dear Arizona and other states, (a rant)

If this bill passes, here are my 10 questions:

Will you ask every customer, client etc if they have any other gods besides yours, as clearly "Thou shalt have no other god" What about atheists?

Will you ask every customer if they have any idols or icons they pray to?

Will you ask everyone if they've ever said God Dammit? Since "Thou shalt not take the lord's name in vain...

Will you be open on Sundays? Or Saturdays (The original Sabbath) Because aren't you supposed to "Keep the sabbath holy?"

Will you ask everyone if they ever fight with or disagree with their parents?

Will you ask everyone if they've ever killed anyone, either on purpose or accidentally?

Will you ask everyone if they've ever cheated on their spouse, since "Thou shalt not commit adultery?"

Will you ask everyone if they've ever stolen anything?

What about liars? You going to continue to serve those that "bear false witness?"

And FINALLY, those that covet, you gonna ask everyone so that you can make sure that you deny service to anyone who's ever desired the things others have?

And those are the 10 big ones!

What about bacon eaters, or football players? Doesn't leviticus state "You shall not eat of their (pigs) flesh nor touch their carcasses; they are unclean to you." Same goes for shrimp, crab and a lot of other animals.

What about people with tattoos? Leviticus 19:28 reads, "You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the Lord."

I mean come on, if your basis for discrimination is because of your religion, you might as well get it right. Stone your unwed non-virgins! Don't wear polyester blends! Don't plant different plants in the same crop!

SO MANY THINGS have changed in the thousands of years since some antiquated rules were created. Get over yourselves. The world is a different place AND, contrary to what many people think, "the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion" (John Adams, treaty of Tripoli).

End rant.

I should probably mention that this is not to say that I don't respect every religion out there. I don't necessarily agree with the tenets of every religion, but I completely accept that there are hundreds of different religions with many different sets of rules. I simply think that setting up rules that support discrimination simply because of one's religion, is not right and disrespectful.
